Esther Seward a longtime Elyria resident died at 85 after a 64 year stay in the city. Born in Huntingdon Ireland on Sept 23 1856 she married Thomas Seward in 1868 and lived in Elyria for five decades. Survived by ten children including D W Seward Postmaster. funeral at St Marys church Tuesday at 9 a.m.
General Chang Tso Lin, who declared Manchuria independent after defeat by Wu Pei Fu, masses troops on the Manchurian frontier for defense. He was military governor. troops moving south from Mukden sparked reports of possible new offensive against Wu Pei Fu forces.

Sheriff N D Backus with deputies Adams and Fey raided John Dorlosan’s Pearl road store outside Lorain on Saturday and found a quart of liquor and fifty gallons of mash. Dorlosan pled guilty at arraignment before Judge Thompson and was fined $100 and costs aided by his crippled child in Oberlin Home and a sick wife.
May 15 Ernest Kohlmyer an 11 year old boy son of Adolph Kohlmyer is in St Josephs hospital with internal injuries that may result in death. He was playing ball at home and asked his father to move the automobile for more room. The father backed up and ran over him as the boy stood behind the vehicle. The lad was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.
Frank Madje, a Cincinnati mechanic, won a $25,000 heart balm award in a suit against Ben Rahe, former packing plant owner now in San Francisco, claiming Rahe seduced Madje’s wife. The jury awarded the full amount Madje sought.
A miniature cyclone struck Downsville eight miles south of Waco, demolishing M. C. Dorsey’s house and moving it forty yards. Mr and Mrs Dorsey escaped unharmed. Torrential rain drained Waco creek and derailed the San Antonio Dallas Express of the MK&T near the city, leaving coach and cars toppled. Mrs Sterling C Robertson of San Antonio was seriously injured with others sustaining minor injuries. A special train ferried passengers and the injured to Waco.
Paris May 15. Chicago youth Allister McCormick pursues his engagement to Miss Mary Landon Baker amid threats by Mary to break it off for someone she likes better. She hints at England social rounds and possible September wedding back in France if no preferred suitor appears. McCormick denies postponement and plans a June wedding despite the tense signals.
Premier Lloyd George warned that refusing to meet at The Hague could lead to allied isolation of Russia. The plan for a mixed commission at The Hague on June 15 to study the Russian issue was rejected by Russia, while a conference sub commission on Russian affairs was planned for tomorrow, with France possibly absent.
A Big Four passenger train 32 from St. Joseph to Indianapolis struck a broken rail in Warsaw Indiana. The locomotive and three coaches derailed and turned on their sides. The train traveled about 35 miles per hour. All passengers escaped serious injury with only bruises reported. Baggagemen were crushed between falling trunks but not seriously hurt. A report followed about further details.
SHREVEPORT La May 13 A northbound Kansas City Southern passenger train derailed near DeQueen Arkansas after leaving at 6 40 last night. Engineer Frank Woodson of Shreveport was killed and the fireman and bage man were injured.
