Auto Classic At Akron June Lind Auto Classic At Akron June

Akron Ohio May 14 The next state of Ohio has never seen it to do much for horse racing within its confines but when it comes to automobile racing there is a different story to tell. Since last summer when 8B Ward Beam manager of the Akron Cleveland board speedway six miles north of this city resumed an earnest fight to be given license by the American Automobile Association to stage a point championship classic here this year the Bucheye state itself has done as much work as any one else to clinch success for Beams efforts. The speedway is located on the Akron Cleveland state road a Magnificent ribbon of concrete connecting the two great industrial cities of northern Ohio. Because of the tremendous crowds which have thronged to the speedway in the past and knowing that these crowds would be doubled if post championship A A racing ever did come to Akron the state has rushed thru to completion the widening of this Akron Cleveland road from the Akron city limits almost to the ticket window of the board sauce. Now there is an asphalt and concrete ribbon smooth as a dance floor 100 feet from curb to curb from the very heart of the city to the half mile speed way capable of dangling eight lanes of traffic at high speed and giving positive assurance there will be a minimum of congestion when race fans from all over Ohio come here June 22 for the first point championship classic ever held in Ohio The championship race to which only drivers who have competed at Indianapolis or Altoona are eligible was sanctioned a few days ago bs the contest board of the A A A headed by Captain Eddie Rickenbacker.
