Pope John Paul I shot in St Peter's Square
Vatican Radio reported Pope John Paul I was hit by gunfire in St. Peter's Square while attending his weekly audience. He was transported by ambulance to Gemelli hospital as witnesses described blood near his neck and crowds prayed in the square. The pope, 60, is the first non Italian pope in 455 years.
