Breakthrough in Lake Erie Walleye Tagged Under FWS Program
Lake Erie walleye yearlings tagged by the Fish and Wildlife Service show average lengths near 10.8 inches with potential to reach 16 inches by summer’s end. Commercial harvesters won’t target 13 inch fish until fall, boosting sport anglers’ chances for 11 to 13 inch fish. More than 4,000 fish were tagged in Sandusky over three weeks, with darts and return data to map movements and aid management.
