Bruce Alexander Heads County G O P Group

Bruce Alexander of Elyria was elected chairman of the Lorain County Republican Central Committee at the post primary reorganization meeting. Other officers named include Ira L. Porter of Oberlin as vice chairman and Raymond R. Wasem of Amherst as secretary. The committee praised Harold Covault for his work, and MacDermott and Wasem were re elected. Ruth Ox Was was approved as county chairwoman and joined the executive committee. Taft campaign ties were noted with MacDermott named state campaign chairman and George Apolton named aide.

Oil Firms and Unions Meet as Strike Looms Toward Taft-Hartley

The Wage Stabilization Board summoned 75 oil companies and 22 unions for talks in Washington amid a nationwide two week oil workers strike involving about 90 000 employees. Half of Britain’s shuttle flights were canceled and fuel shortages appeared across several U S regions as negotiations stalled. A 15 cent hourly wage increase was among the settlements under consideration.

Railroad Man Is Injured In Traffic Mishap

William McComas 65 of Fairview Park Ohio a New York Central railroad switch man was injured at 2 40 am when his car skidded on wet pavement and hit a concrete railing on a culvert Route 57 south of Route 82. He was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for abrasions and a possible fractured femur.

Traffic study planned for Sheffield at routes 301 and 611

W L Zink state highway traffic safety engineer will study traffic conditions tomorrow at the intersection of routes 301 and 611 in Sheffield. County Commissioner J Nor m Thompson says residents request a traffic light at that intersection.

Moore Re-elected Chairman of City Democrats

Elyria Democratic City Committee reelected Moore as chairman at a meeting of precinct committeemen. New officers named James P. Horn as vice chairman and Harriette Vanca as secretary and treasurer. Several Elyria committeemen were named to county executive committee and Lundberg named finance chairman. A fish fry and summer picnic plans were announced by local Democratic groups.

Contracts Awarded For Developing School Sites

Two site development contracts totaling 47 620 90 were awarded to Strickfaden Nursery Co of Sandusky as the low bidder for finish grading seeding and planting at six Elyria public school sites. Previous actions included a 130 315 bid from H J Hart Construction Co for soil distribution drainage and tiling and grading. A fencing contract of 19 000 to Actor Fence Co will be decided at a noon board meeting. The board eyed repairs to Hamilton school rubber playground after soil issues with asphalt emulsion.

Police Continue Hunt For Lima Escapees

Three Parma Heights police cruisers and four extra officers searched through the night for Neville Slusser and Floyd Keith, two Lima State Hospital escapees, but no trace was found. Authorities believed the fugitives were hiding in the area.

Bauer resigns as Elyria High athletic director

Ralph F. Bauer, Elyria High School athletic director for three years, submitted his resignation to the school board. The board accepted it with no successor named effective June 6, 1952. Bauer will remain as a physical education and health teacher while losing the AD post.
