Lorain County authorities say 67 year old Charles Young was found off the North Coast Inland Trail between Butternut Ridge and Russia roads. Coroner Dr Stephen Evans says autopsy pending but believes a pre existing medical condition caused natural death.
Grafton village considers its fourth administrator in as many years as Tom Williams resigns to take private sector work while remaining part time. Williams planned to depart April 3 and left a resignation letter unsubmitted after Mayor Flanigan urged keeping it. Council members expressed surprise and questioned timing of the notice and open discussion. Flanigan says she has tried to include council in the process and notes lack of communication from some members. Council voted April 24 to pay Williams a monthly fee for continued involvement.
Elyria moves to join a joint purchasing group with ODOT to lock in buying 10 000 tons of road salt at an unknown price. City officials note prior costs and the need to sign in by May 18 with bids opening May 19. After passage of last week's levy Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Schools show surpluses of 3.5 million to 3.1 million over the next two years. Sheffield villagers move to repeal a section of the codified ordinance that barred refusals to identify themselves to police. Law Director Thomas Smith notes the ordinance conflicts with state law after prosecutor Chris Cook raised the issue following a legal conference.
