The Lorain Coast Guard Station hosts a free open house May 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 110 Alabama Ave. The event marks Safe Boating Week with kid activities, life ring toss, line throws, equipment demos, and tours of the new 45 foot pursuit boat and station facilities. Local recruiters and USCG Auxiliary members will be present.

Stolen flute tied to rental dispute at Sheffield Lake
A woman reported a flute worth 800 to 1000 stolen after it was pawned for 40 by a man she had rented to. Police traced it to Park and Pawn in Elyria. Earlier a domestic dispute on Lake Road produced no violence and no arrests. An incident on Pasadena Avenue involved a sister dispute with conflicting stories. Auto parts worth 700 stolen from Automotive Research between Sunday and Monday.
