Firelands FFA members set state proficiency record
Firelands High School FFA members set a state record for proficiency awards at the state FFA Convention district contest. Senior Alex Tuggle placed fourth in Sheep Production. Amanda Spears earned second in Diversified Horticultural Placement. Jimmy Hozalski won Grain Production and advances to nationals.

Iron Crafter Champs Claim Pat Catan’s Title
Firelands Iron Crafter team of Daniel Truitt Erika Hornyak Biz James and Carlie Elek won the competition at Pat Catan's with coach Sue James. The winning project will be displayed at Pat Catan's 1955 Cooper Foster Park Road. Contestants earned $25 gift certificates each and Firelands Art Department received a $100 gift certificate along with a trophy for the winning school.

Dog Dayz at Vermilion River Reservation runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday with a dog walk at 10:30 a.m. Food and drinks available. Also preschool playtime at Amherst Public Library 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday and a 2013 library board budget hearing Monday evening.
