Diversion Programs Cut Juvenile Court Caseloads in Ohio
Diversion programs in northeast Ohio reduce juvenile court cases as youths trade court appearances for community service. About 11,500 fewer cases were filed in 1999 vs 1998 across Cleveland suburbs, with more than half the drop tied to 1,000 extra youths entering diversion. Caseload declines appear in Lake, Lorain, Portage and Geauga counties, while Summit stays steady.
