Sands buried with IRA honors in Belfast funeral
Police fought Catholic youths as Bobby Sands burial drew near in Belfast. A policeman was killed in a sniper attack and a bomb killed one youth with 13 injured as Britain sent in the Spearhead Battalion to quell unrest. Sands lay in St. Luke's Church guarded by IRA members, to be carried to Milltown Cemetery for a final military salute. His family led the procession and the coffin bore the Irish tricolor before entering the church. Sands, calling himself a prisoner of war, had been on a hunger strike with three others.

Marsico case heads to jury after long trial day
U S District Judge John Holschuh let the jury hear both summations in the Marsico case as the trial nears verdict. Prosecutors and defense finished their cases with disputed testimony from key witness Lisa Babcock and countered with ink analysis on a ledger tied to alleged drug transactions. The defense challenged witness credibility and argued for a mistrial, while other defense testimony aimed to rebut conclusions about airline fronts Cape Air Freight Inc and Transit Inc used in alleged cocaine deals.
