Oberlin council cuts power plant upgrades to fund deluxe street lighting
Oberlin city officials cut about 24000 dollars in planned capital improvements for the municipal power system to pay for underground street lighting on six to eight streets. Residents protested replacing underground wires with cheaper overhead lines amid a recent 90 percent rate hike for typical 600 kilowatt month users. Council discussed maintaining existing wiring, while other actions included a 0.3 mill police pension levy on the November ballot and deferring sewer and loose dog ordinances.

Port Authority OKs Appropriations
LORAIN The port authority approved its annual appropriations after city council backed an $18,000 subsidy. The 1975 appropriation stood at $31,000, down $2,000 from 1974 due to a new office location in city hall and reduced rent and utilities from moving out of the Broadway Building. Most funds go to salaries at $20,000 with $2,000 for public relations, $4,300 for contractual services, and $1,200 for port development. The authority aims for financial self sufficiency, seeking further cuts next year after a subsidy $7,000 lower than last year. It has faced long term finances as residents blocked operating levies, operating on bond-derived funds to aid company expansion.
