Seaway Bill Passes Congress to Build 27-Foot Channel

After a 241 to 158 House vote and a 51 to 33 Senate tally, Congress approved the St. Lawrence Seaway project. The plan creates a U S Canadian canal system with a 27 foot deep channel and about 20 locks, linking the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. The United States would borrow 105 million dollars, Canada 200 million, with tolls funding repayment and joint administration through a Seaway Development Corporation. Construction is expected to take 7 to 10 years with power dam cooperation and federal authority.

Gunmen Hold Up Ohio Bank Flee With 20000

Two masked gunmen robbed the Exchange Bank Co in Canal Fulton Stark County taking about 20000 including cash from the vault and drawers.
