Pocket pets linked to multi drug resistant Salmonella outbreak

A CDC led probe ties sickened people in at least ten states to contact with pocket pets such as hamsters mice and gerbils. The outbreak involves a drug resistant Salmonella strain, primarily affecting children, with cases dating back to 2003 and continuing into 2005. Cases have been confirmed in Illinois Kentucky Missouri Pennsylvania South Carolina Georgia Michigan Minnesota New Jersey and North Carolina.
