Brig. Gen. Metcalf of Ely and Oberlin graduate leads security for the Re National Convention in June. He is in charge of proper ticket enforcement and serving as doorkeeper. His home is in Kansas.
J. M. Terrell of Ridgeville was brought to Memorial hospital with head lacerations and unconscious after his car turn into an oncoming vehicle at Fields Corners. The car overturned and witnesses pulled him from wreckage. an X-ray was planned to assess injuries.
Joseph Soros of Lorain convicted of liquor law violation for the third time. Judge W B Thompson sentenced him to the Ohio penitentiary for at least one year.
John Pekras reported a break in to his garage at the rear of 319 Middle avenue and his Studebaker sedan stolen. Police notified surrounding towns but no word. J D Lysight also reports tools and a jack stolen from his car on Middle avenue. A master key for a Best Rite Bed Spring was found by Henry Stolzenberg at the Peerless Filling Station.
A Lorain County Bar Association committee says the proposed new court house addition should be overseen by a united advisory panel. The group recommends including attorneys from Lorain Oberlin Wellington and Amherst to assist the prosecuting attorney and county commissioners without pay in promoting the proposition.
Rt. Rev. Joseph Schrembs, Bishop of Cleveland, consecrated Holy Cross church at West and Musser avenues in Elyria. The ceremony honored Rev. Joseph L. Kutat and his Polish congregation with high mass, processions, and a bishop’s blessing. A large crowd attended including many priests, bands, and local groups. Confirmation services planned for Immaculate Conception Graf ton and Sacred Heart Oberlin later.
Orrville Ohio May 5. Passage of a no hitching post ordinance by the town council stirred a “little war” as farmers clash with auto owners over space in the square. Merchants side with farmers insisting the town favored farmers. the plan would force vehicles to park in the square center, blocking traffic. Farmers threaten to halt vegetables and farm goods flow into town.
Destroyers of the US Navy aided by Alaskan fishing boats search the North Pacific south of the Alaska peninsula between Chicago and False Pass for Major Frederick L. Martin and his mechanician Sergeant Alva Harvey, after Martin left Chignik for Dutch Harbor to rejoin the expedition. A severe storm possibly hurled them into the sea. rescuers hope they found shelter in unturied coves along the coast, but days may pass before discovery.
In Lorain on May 5 12 year old Ruby Coward died after a toy Jail game led to a gun being loaded and fired by her brother Paul and another brother Hoyle intervened The revolver discharged striking Ruby in the abdomen She died early Sunday morning Coroner Perry ruled accidental death Funeral services set for 2 PM tomorrow at the Coward home.

Mrs. Anna Herr of Canton sustained neck lacerations when the car she rode in skidded and struck a passing train at Stop 76 near the city limits on Cleveland road. Driver was her sister Mrs. Mary Shuntz who failed to see the train in heavy rain. Herr was hospitalized for treatment.
Fourteen passengers including four women were hurt when an elevator cable broke and the car plummeted four stories to the shaft bottom in a downtown Ashland block office building in Chicago. Governor Donahey proclaimed Mothers Day for May 11 in Ohio urging homage to mothers who nurtured and loved us.
Manager Clint Worthington of Riverview Park Amusement Co. secured a building permit for a $7,000 expansion to the dance hall. The 220 foot structure will be half covered, half open. The park is set to open on May 11 with a special attractions series for the public.

R T J Martin president of American Shovel and Stamping Co Lorain says the plant will stay busy with a large order. He recently returned from Chicago where he secured over 1,000,000 dollars worth of parts for Yellow Cab Co. The Lorain plant will produce discs wheels shields and guards once plans are finalized.
Senator Robert M. La Follette of Wisconsin left Washington for Atlantic City to rest from illness and ponder his political future. The two week or longer recuperation could determine whether he leads a third party or independent ticket in the fall campaign.
Dayton, Ohio May 5 Jimmie Cox a taxicab driver said he was robbed of his cab and tied to a tree in a large field near Troy by a man who hired him to go to Troy. Cox freed himself and notified Troy and Dayton police giving a detailed description of the bandit.
Alice Ward Duanfee of Murray Ridge died suddenly last evening at 5 30. She was 75 7 14 and had been a Lorain county resident living in the same house 49 years. She leaves four children Charles Refenning Elyria Charles W Adrian Mich Myron Elyria and Abner at home one sister Mrs Charles Lyon and another sister Mrs A E Lord preceding the deceased by two weeks seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 09 from the late home on Murray Ridge. Rev Burner will officiate and burial will be in Ridgelawn cemetery.
Four men burst into Regent Theatre offices in Detroit on May 3 and threatened an employee with guns, escaping with 5069 dollars. The bold daylight robbery targeted theatre staff and left the scene undisturbed by witnesses. Police are investigating possible suspects and reviewing nearby footage.
In Massachusetts a 17-year-old boy Burton Tucker and his 49-year-old wife, mother of the 13-day-old baby Violet, were believed en route to California. Mrs. Sarah Burnham, mother of Mrs. Tucker, released a statement after failed efforts to locate them. The couple had recently welcomed a girl named Violet.
In Pisa Italy Captain Roald Amundsen arrives to oversee two hard aluminum hydroplanes built at Marina di Pisa with English motors. The ships, of about five tons each, are designed to reach Spitzberg and then Alaska via a direct North Pole route, aided by provisions from a Norwegian ship.
