Second fiery crash injures seven on Route 2 near Lorain

A Pennsylvania man narrowly escaped a second fiery crash when a tractor trailer slammed into seven vehicles on Route 2 near Elyria, injuring six with minor burns. Eyewitness Beth Amos, Lorain resident Conant Wilene Wilcox, and other drivers described a truck not merging properly into a single lane near a construction zone west of Route 57. Seven people were hospitalized, one with severe burns transferred to St Joseph Hospital. Police charged Wilcox with reckless operation. a Public Utilities Commission inspection was planned.

Motorists Ignore Signs Tied to Route 2 Work

Elyria police and state officials say the Route 2 construction near Route 57 was properly marked but motorists did not heed warnings. A fatal four vehicle crash Tuesday killed an Illinois man and injured four, and an eight vehicle pileup Friday injured seven. Both crashes involved trucks in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 near the Route 57 bridge.
