Lorain City Council candidate facing stalking order dismissed
A Lorain County judge dismissed the civil stalking protection order request by Tia Hilton against Lorain City Council candidate Knapp after denying a continuance. Hilton sought protection for herself her husband and son, alleging threats to kill. The temporary order remains in place but may be refiled by Hilton. Avon Lake conducts unplanned demolition at former power plant
Mayor Mark Spatezel reported a sudden safety demolition of the south facade at the former power plant on Lake Road Avon Lake, with a crane removing pillars and brick as authorities limited access and road closures remained in effect. The Avon Lake Environmental Redevelopment Group says demolition will continue through the summer aiming at completion by August 31.

Avon Paralympic swimmer Sprenger dies at 23
Breanna Sprenger, a former U S Paralympic swimmer from Avon, died May 1 at age 23 due to complications after surgery. Born without legs and with one arm, she swam for the U S team in 2013 in Montreal finishing sixth in the 50 meter backstroke. A 2019 Avon High School graduate, she served as a disability advocate and studied social work at Cleveland State University.
