City officials approve a memorandum of agreement with Scannell Development for a 30 acre site plan featuring a 347000 square foot facility with manufacturing, warehouse and office space. The project is expected to invest 22 to 25 million dollars and create about 300 jobs. Mayor Gillock gave few specifics beyond the brief description.
Jeane Harrington, 58, was convicted by a Lorain County jury of murder felonious assault and tampering with evidence in the death of her estranged husband Michael Gabel. Harrington was remanded without bond pending sentencing planned for later this month.
Four people were arrested after a Garden Street shootout in Elyria before 9 a.m. No injuries were reported. Police continue to determine each person’s involvement and search for additional suspects. Captain Chris Costantino said the incident remains under investigation.
Elyria City Council tabled a decision on dissolving the Elyria Health District and joining Lorain County General Health District. The move would raise property taxes and affect nearly 20 city workers as residents weigh the impact. Council members debated the path during a crowded meeting.
Amherst district with about 4 000 students started its first orchestra as 100 fifth and sixth graders joined the inaugural ensemble. The program debuted at the State of Schools address at Marion L Steele High School, with plans to expand to seventh grade next year and later to middle and high schools.
