State probe urged on Columbia Gas profits in Ohio
Consumers' Counsel William Spratley urged a statewide investigation into Columbia Gas of Ohio profits despite a plan for a 54 million dollar rate rollback. He said rates should fall by 73 to 100 million, citing a 32 percent return on equity versus 14.6 percent allowed. Spratley warned the PUCO and noted 363 local rate agreements complicate regulation under home rule. Columbia cited earnings rise from 35 million to 53 million and said rate cuts of at least 25 dollars yearly begin in June as it moves toward regional pricing.
