Hartford Flood of May 1 1854 Records Deepest Waters
Weather historians note Hartford Connecticut suffered its worst 19th century flood on May 1 1854 after 66 hours of rain the water peaked at 28.9 feet. The event stood as the record until the 1936 great flood surpassed it.

Marine scientists at Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington report the colossal squid caught off Antarctica has an intact eye of about 11 inches in diameter, the largest known eye in the animal kingdom. The 26 foot, 1000 pound female specimen was defrosted for study.
