Wellington bid withdrawal halts $4 million IRB project
Lorain County Development Corp members heard a Wellington plan to fund a $4 million shopping center and Fishers Big Wheel store with industrial revenue bonds was withdrawn by Philip H. Coe as opposition from about 25 local business leaders grew. Coe said the move allows restudy while supporters called it a moral victory for Wellington merchants.

Rail crossing gates reach Ridgeville amid delays at Maddock Road
In Ridgeville NORTH RIDGEVILLE the Race Road crossing gates operate but are not yet official. Maddock Road signals are not working but expected to be ready next week. Since 1977 three people died and a fourth was critically injured in crashes at the two crossings amid delays and need for an electronic control system. Federal approval came in 1980 with Conrail authorization for the upgrade.

Missing North Olmsted woman found dead in Westlake field
The body of 56 year old Rosalee Dickenson of Forestwood Drive was found in a field behind St John and West Shore Hospital. Police said no foul play is suspected though autopsy to determine cause of death was planned. Her husband reported she had been despondent and had taken sleeping pills and her driver license.

Elyria High School 150th Anniversary Gala Schedule
Elyria High School marks its 150th anniversary with a Saturday gala beginning at 11 am in Ely Park. A parade led by the drum corps and Elyria Mayor Michael Keys starts at 11:30 am, with past homecoming queens aboard antique vehicles. Activities include a noon proclamation, 1 pm lunch, 1:30 pm musical performances by the EHS Jazz Band, 2 pm string orchestra, 2:30 pm madrigal singers, 3 pm concert choir and a cappella selections, and a 3:30 pm one act play. An 4 pm program of reflections features EHS leaders. The building will be open all day with numerous displays in rooms 109 through 146 and exhibits in the Lincoln Building lobby.
