Sohio faces US order to raise gasoline prices
The Department of Energy ordered The Standard Oil Co. of Ohio to raise gasoline prices in Ohio by up to ten cents a gallon, after Sohio had announced a five cent hike. Officials cited refinery outages forcing higher spot-market purchases to maintain May allocations, while a Sohio spokesman said the company is reviewing the price structure. Ronald Schilke of Elyria’s Independent Oil & Tire Co. warned the industry could not endure another 46 days of Sohio price competition as Ohio independents push for relief.

Auxiliary Gives $200000 to EMH Lab
Elyria Memorial Hospital received a 200000 gift from its 157 member auxiliary to equip a new 750000 cardiac catheterization laboratory. Plans for the facility were announced late that year and construction will begin in August on the hospitals second floor. The 11 story Smythe Building honors Chauncey B. Smythe. a portrait by Jon Mateer will hang in the lobby.
