Police say a hostage situation ended when Jeffrey, a Elyria West High senior, failed to fire as two officers shot him after he raised a pistol toward them. A second volley left him down, with detectives reporting a stolen .357 revolver and shoulder holster. Several robbers took cash from three shoppers, totaling about 56 dollars. The scene drew six patrol cars and Lorain County deputies Holstein and Muller arriving from the downtown station.
