Signs Of Spring At The White House In 1950s
Signs of spring fill the White House grounds with painters at work and a thick stand of Brass under trees. Tourists crowd sidewalks while sightseeing guides sell Capitol area tours for up to 20 dollars. Regular White House visits run Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to noon with no ticket needed, though guides offer a free button. White House reporters gain new press room booths with space and electric fans. A light anecdote recalls Bob Hope recalling Eisenhower and jokes about Operation Ivy and jet age weapons.
