Three Pilots Struggle With Giant Panda
Three TWA transport plane pilots battled a giant panda that wandered into the Allegheny County Airport bound flight cabin. The 70 pound animal bit First Officer M. H. Cassing as Captain Don Terry subdued and guided the plane to a safe landing. The panda, en route from China to the Bronx Zoo, had been chained in the baggage hold before entering the cabin.

Boy Escapes Serious Injury After Auto Sideswipe
Five year old Frank Merrick, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Merrick, suffered only minor bruises when two wheels passed over his left leg after being struck at West avenue and Ledi street. Driver Andrew Nieding halted, sent the boy by taxi to Elyria Memorial Hospital, and he was turned over to his mother. The incident also involved Merrick’s sister Emma Jean, age six, who was with him. Two other minor accidents were reported, including a collision on Broad street involving B M Kirsch and Steve Vargo, and rear damage on Broad street to a car driven by Am Lescher and Will Roose’s vehicle from Amherst.

North Ridgeville residents today toured the new brick post office on Route 20, moved from the old facility Saturday. Ruth McLaughlin, postmaster since 1936, welcomed locals and said the new quarters will double mail speed with two clerks assigned.
