President Reagan sat up in bed joking with doctors and nurses and signed the Dairy Price Support bill from his hospital breakfast tray. James Brady, shot in the head, was reported much improved but prognosis uncertain. Hinckley Jr. was arraigned on attempted assassination charges.
Washington report says John Hinckley Jr the man charged with attempting to kill President Reagan comes from a wealthy Republican family and has a psychiatric history. He grew up in Colorado Texas and Nashville where he was jailed for attempting to board a plane with handguns. A Chicago neo Nazi leader described him as an ex member expelled for wanting to shoot people. He faces charges of trying to assassinate a president and assaulting a federal agent and is in FBI custody at a safe place for psychiatric evaluation.
A clouding night brings a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with lows in the 50s. Wednesday starts with showers, then partial clearing in the afternoon with highs in the low to mid 60s.
Al Antonucci and Frank McNamara, both leaders in Ohio and Cleveland unions, waited outside the Hilton where President Reagan emerged after a speech.
