State game warden J. C. Porterfield and the Attorney General interpret a new game law to bar all black bass sales after April 15 and extend the ban to fish caught outside the state, via a circulated warning to fish dealers.
Forest McCord a local barber killed his sweetheart Charity Storb then took his own life in Bournville. Residents say the couple had long been together. A warrant for McCord’s arrest had been sworn after a drunken assault earlier that day, and a fatal scream ended with McCord slashing his throat as emergency responders arrived.
Rev Frank Hungate former pastor of the Baptist church was sentenced to five years in the penitentiary for performing a criminal operation on his 18 year old housekeeper Phoebe McKeowan. He declared his innocence to God and the Palmesville community. Judge Metcalf handed down the sentence.
In Pittsburg on March 31 a blast in furnace I at Edgar Thompson Steel Co. burned fourteen men, three fatally. The molten metal showered workers as the furnace released. Seven were sent to Mercy hospital by street car at 5 pm, the rest by train. Investigation into the cause is underway.

New York March 31 More than $85,000,000 will be paid in April as dividends and interest, most in New York City, exceeding last year’s $79,000,000 April total. Banks have been conserving resources in prep for heavy disbursements and bankers foresee a period of easy money rates as monetary stringency eases.
San Francisco March 31 The betting on the Corbett McGovern fight tonight remains at 10 to 8 in favor of McGovern. Both fighters are in good condition though Corbett is slightly overweight and expects to be within the limit at the weighing in time.
Buffalo March 31 Judge Murphy delivered a verdict in the Burdick case after detailing the crime. He found the murder was with a dull edged weapon and homicidal intent, but could not prove the killer’s identity. The judge stated that with Pennell alive the evidence might justify a different conclusion, but as is he could not establish identity.
The publishers of Picturesque Elyria plan a city souvenir volume. Due to canvassing difficulties, many residents businesses and professionals have not been seen. Those with representative residences or interests are asked to contact manager Mrs. O H Monroe within the next few days to close contracts. The book will feature illustrations and brief write ups of parks churches public buildings residences and local business and manufacturing concerns.
Bellefontaine Ohio reports a sensational incident Monday as a wife under police protection fled with her two children from her renounced husband. Earlier, two weeks ago a striking blonde woman of good bearing arrived in town, adding to the drama of the case.
Mrs Robinson at a city hotel fled when J H Diamond of Cincinnati claimed to be her husband. Diamond tracked the family, traveled to Hontsville to disguise his beard, and pressed to join on an east bound train to Rochester. Police intervened to keep the mother and children safe and separate Diamond from the party.
The report notes the marriage of Miss Florence Buswell of Elyria to Robert Daniel Brough in Los Angeles on Wednesday March 25. The bride, long a local resident, has many relatives here who wish the couple happiness in their new Riverside California home.
A man identified as McCormick left the infirmary on Monday after an incident. on Tuesday he aided on the white wings project, facing a $5 fine plus costs.
The poverty social at Maccabee hall hosted by the B. F. U. was postponed indefinitely after the death of A. J Rueblin, a member of the order. An earlier Chronicle Mon-Gay notice of the postponement was omitted by oversight.
Thomas H Serage a 25 year old electrician from Welington and Stella G Beardsley a 26 year old from Rochester are listed for marriage licenses with Morgan Wood to officiate the ceremony.
Members of the Elks are requested to meet at their lodge room on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to attend the funeral of Brother Reubiin.
In Washington on March 31 Minister Quesada and Secretary Hay exchanged ratifications of the Cuban reciprocity treaty. The U S copy ratified by the Senate was signed and recognized as the exchange. the Cuban copy awaits arrival to be signed. The event marks formal U S Cuba agreement steps.
Weather report forecasts fair conditions tonight with warmer readings in the northwest and increasing cloudiness on Wednesday. William Baugh of Cleveland, nicknamed Happy Bill, Salvation Army worker, was in Elyria recently and says the Army may reopen a barracks there soon.
Fred Stark of Clark Street died suddenly Monday evening after returning from the Garford saddlery factory and eating supper. He was found unwell while seated in the lounge and died shortly after. He leaves a wife and two children. Also notes a Corset Sale at The Biggs and Everard Co. with prices $1.00 to $1.25, 69 cents.
The Chicago market reports closing May wheat pounds and corn at mixed levels. Cattle numbers reach 35,000 with active steady trading, hogs about 13,000 up 5 to 10 cents, sheep 12,000 steady to 10 cents higher. East Liberty notes cattle steady, sheep steady, hogs fair but slow and unchanged.
A head on collision between a light engine and passenger train No. 1216 on the Berkshire division of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, six miles south of Waterbury, Conn, left two trainmen dead and one fatally injured. The engines smashed and the light engine exploded while passengers were shaken and several were lightly hurt. Bert Newman fireman on the passenger train died. the express messenger Scully also died. Engineer Chapman survived. Marshal Krohn left for Cleveland to place Colb alias Cook in the workhouse to serve a fine for obtaining money under false pretence.
Robbers entered the homes of Fred Shepperd on Middle Avenue and Fred Dean on West River Street Sunday night. A fine watch was taken from Dean's residence. The Married People's Dancing Club held a pleasant dancing party at the G. A. R. hall early Monday night.
