Berea Board rejects eminent domain land purchase plan
Berea schools will not seek to take the Gaub property on Eastland Road by eminent domain. The 7.4 acre site, owned by Harriet Gaub and bought by Joseph Bishop for a 28 unit subdivision, influenced debate over a 6.9 mill operating levy. District officials said the issue diverts from passing the levy and noted funds would come from capital improvements, not operating funds, with the ballot set for May 8.

Berea Court to operate at a deficit in 1990
Berea Municipal Court will run a deficit again in 1990, as Clerk James Sullivan told the city council finance committee. The 1989 deficit reached 135000 dollars and is expected to rise when Middleburg Heights opens a mayor's court in September. State law requires Berea to cover the shortfall. The deficit arises from nearby mayor's courts diverting cases from the municipal court. The 1990 budget stands at 731013 dollars, down 14500 from 1989 due to a retirement not being replaced.
