Severe sleet storm cuts Elyria lights and travel
Five years ago in 1928 Elyria and surrounding areas faced a severe sleet storm. Damage reached about 100000 dollars as power and telephone wires broke, leaving the city without lights from 2 30 to 5 30 in the morning and with limited service after. Interurban car lines and city streets were blocked by fallen trees and twisted wires. The storm affected multiple towns statewide, isolating several cities. In Lorain County a court overruled a bid to halt notes and bonds for the Lorain County Memorial Bridge over the Black River, with the sale proceeding. East Carlisle school board announced the start of a new 75000 consolidated grade school to serve 250 to 300 students, replacing six small district schools.
