Claim Public Struggle Over Patriotism Era Sparks Albany Debate

Albany reports considerable excitement over charges filed by the New York State League of Women Voters led by Mrs. Frank A Vanderlip. The group accuses the Insurance Economic Society and its backers of using the League for Americanism to push insurance interests and other measures through the legislature. Speaker Sweet faced accusations and claimed he would respond but did not. Campaign spending exceeded $29,000 as he sought re election amid partisan backing and a female challenger focused on child welfare. The women pledge full inquiry to shield the public from being misled by patriotic rhetoric.
