Park Fund Squeeze Draws Near
City park funds for 1960 are nearly one quarter spent and budget constraints loom. Commission President Vernon Bel warned the summer heavy costs for playground, maintenance, tree work, road projects, pool, and patrol will press the $43,745 department budget. Bids are sought to spray 3,500 park trees with a $950 appropriation, five Ely Park trees will be topped, and a guy wire may support another. The panel expects a state highway easement offer worth about 1.20 and plans to use extra funds for summer patrols to protect children. Parking reductions have been made to a minimal level.
