Four armed bandits attempted a hold up at Citizens Savings Bank in Baltimore near noon. They fired one shot but fled without loot as hundreds passed by. No injuries reported.
Chicago faced the heaviest snowstorm in history, costing the city over 3.9 million dollars while rural districts gained moisture for dry soil. Fred W. Zarnke and Corbett Southam receive new titles as temporary captain and detective respectively effective April 1 under Safety-Service Director John N. Eid. Zarnke to $2040 and Southam to $2000 yearly. Southam succeeds Zarnke as detective. Previous acting captains kept duties while civil service reviews proceed. City ordinance to create new ranks pending council action, with proposed four additional officers and more lieutenants and sergeants.
De Valera said he would leave for Ireland immediately to form a new cabinet if chosen by Fianna Fail as president to succeed William Cosgrave, who resigned after his government was defeated. Washington March 28 Chairman Alexander Legge of the Federal Farm Board, a central figure in the farm emergency, is being urged by President Hoover to remain in office beyond his June 15 term end. Legge, who left a $1.6 million yearly post at International Harvester to head the board, had expected a two year tenure. Opposition in the grain trade led by Julius Barnes is noted, though Hoover has pressed for continuation.
Louisville March 28 The state health board banned the sale of Jamaica ginger to curb an epidemic of partial paralysis blamed on the extract. No druggist or merchant may dispense it until stock is analyzed and deemed non poisonous. Several hundred Kentuckians who used the extract as a beverage have fallen ill.
Two workers, Ross Aungst and Vernon Blaine, were injured when an elevator plunged twelve feet at Fea Farsace Company. Blaine broke a leg, Aungst fractured a heel and bruised an ankle. They were taken to Elm via Clinic for treatment.
Warrants issued for eight alleged ring members led to arrests of Harvey Borne 23 and Silas Buchs 27 in Oberlin on receiving stolen property charges. The two ran an Oberlin garage used to fence cars. Other suspects Mike Yaschan 29 and Donald Anbel 20 face stealing charges, with Harold McCrady 16 and Victor Kubiak 18 referred to juvenile authorities. Arthur Born and Julius Bennett, both about 29, charged with assisting in disposing of stolen cars. Cars were all Fords taken from various county areas. Arrests expected this afternoon. suspects to be arraigned in justice court.

D Blakeley and J W Chagner, in service under a year, among those released.
In Cleveland on March 25 a bomb buried at Airs. Gizella Lefievitz home shattered a porch rail and two windows, narrowly missing interior injury. Investigators link the attack to Tabor disputes within the garment trade. Lefievitz family includes six sons, one daughter. Lathan Lefkovits works as designer for Livinger Dress Co. in a factory with a history of disputes since the January strike.
Frank Steese, federal census supervisor for Lorain and Medina, announced two additional enumerators for the 1930 census. William Holm will serve Elria and Albert Hastings Weilasten and Perfield townships. the county office plans canvassing by April 2 with Miss Marierie Sterrer as clerk.
