Ohio House kills auto tax cut
The Ohio House defeated a bill to suspend the four percent sales tax on new motor vehicles through June 30 by 58 to 38. Supporters failed to secure the two-thirds needed for final passage despite lobbying by the United Auto Workers and Chrysler Corp. The measure would have exempted cars trucks motorcycles and campers and saved buyers 150 to 400 dollars per purchase, while opponents warned of 31.9 million dollars in lost tax revenue.
