Steam Pipe Explosion Kills Four in Manhattan Plant
New York four workers died when a steam pipe burst at the New York Steam Corporation plant on East 35th Street in Kips Bay Manhattan. Police identified the men as Andrew Barney Howard Trucano Edwin Heffner and Ernest Steskal. They were scalded to death as live steam filled the ground floor room. State Sues To Revoke Charter Of Mounds Club
In Columbus the Attorney General Herbert S. Duffy filed a quo warranto suit in the State Supreme Court to revoke the Mounds Club charter of Lake County and appoint trustees to liquidate its affairs. Duffy called the club a notorious mercantile gambling casino that sponsored dice roulette Black Jack chuck-a-luck slot machines and other gaming. The action follows an earlier similar case against the Colony Club at Chesapeake and seeks to impound club safes.

Hurley Workman 20 of Barden and Carl Foster 20 of Duke died in a crash on U.S. Route 2 west of Portsmouth into Rabbit’s Run. Injuries from Multiple Traffic Incidents Reported
Deputy sheriffs investigated several traffic mishaps resulting in injuries. George Palmer Jr. 22 of Lorain and two others were injured on Lake Avenue when Palmer’s northbound car rear ended John Kisel’s vehicle as he prepared to turn into Emerson Court. Mary Kisel 42 and Bertha Kisel 23 sustained chest contusions and knee bruises. Palmer had a forehead laceration. Palmer allegedly had been drinking. A second crash near Route 37 and Route 82 injured Colleen White 20 riding with Hubert White 21 when their car collided with a turning truck trailer operated by Clarence Chahoc. The front of the White car was demolished. Pedestrian Joseph LeChance of Valley View was struck on Gulf Road and knocked into a ditch. he suffered a severely bruised hip.
