Northwest Ohio Braces for Heavy Snow and Sleet

The Columbus weather bureau warns of heavy snow in Northwestern Ohio with up to eight inches in the Toledo area and snow spreading eastward through Northern Ohio today and Tuesday. Great Plains Blizzard Ends as Rescuers Begin Search

The Great Plains blizzard lightened as rescue crews started probing deep snowdrifts for stranded travelers. Reports say at least nine missing in Oklahoma with several deaths across Texas Kansas Oklahoma Colorado Nebraska Nevada and Missouri. Winds reached 80 mph with 40 foot drifts and 14 feet deep at one point as the storm moved eastward from the Texas Panhandle.

Fire Routs 160 At Cleveland

Firefighters and deputies battled a blaze at an apartment building in Cleveland routing 160 tenants from stalled cars. Two tenants, Mrs Audine Wil Hittle and Robert Brady, were carried down ladders after being trapped on a fourth floor balcony. Temperatures in the Texas Panhandle were expected to drop to 24 degrees tonight after a thaw. The fire caused about 100000 dollars in damage.

Train Hits Car in Sheffield Injuring Lorain Man

Manuel Velez a 51 year old Lorain man was seriously injured when his car was struck by a slow moving locomotive on the New York Central spur near French Creek Rd crossing east of Abbe Rd. He suffered head and chest contusions and possible skull fracture. The crossarm at the crossing was down. Velez said he slowed for the crossing and proceeded. the engineer R E Davidson said he could not stop in time. Velez worked at Ford Motor Co in Cleveland.

Woman Held After Fatal Elyria Stabbing Incident

A 20 year old Elyria mother Willie Mae Robinson is held for investigation after a fatal stabbing of her brother in law Lewis Robinson 31 at 412 Clinton Ave basement apartment near Bell and Clinton. Lewis died at Memorial Hospital from internal bleeding after being stabbed three times during a bitter quarrel. Police recovered a pocket knife and stated witnesses saw both parties involved in prior frequent quarrels. Funeral plans for Lewis Robinson will be announced by Sudro Curtis Funeral Home.

Fatal Crash Near Norwalk Kills Greenwich Man

A Greenwich man Frank Patrick 40 died and four Mansfield family members were injured in a two car crash on Rt. 250 near Zenobia Road at 4 30 p m yesterday. Elias Smith 39 of Mansfield driver of the other car Esther 34 Linda Mae 11 and Robbin 4 were hospitalized with injuries. Police reported Patrick died on arrival with a crushed chest. Funeral plans for Patrick were to be announced. Mayor Karl Ertl of Cleveland Heights died Sunday age 55 and Vice Mayor Kenneth Nash will succeed him services set Wednesday.
