Celeste seeks overhaul of gas tax fund sharing with states
Ohio Governor Richard Celeste urged a House subcommittee to change Highway Trust Fund distribution after illustrating Ohio’s 80 cent return for every dollar paid in. He cited a projected $496 million in federal highway aid versus $531 million paid in, calling current terms highway robbery and criticizing Bush’s transportation plan. He argued Ohio already funds roads and bridges beyond federal support and urged restoring minimum allocations while freeing idle funds in the trust.
