Runoff-reduction for Lake Erie would require broad farming changes
A University of Michigan study shows current efforts to cut phosphorus runoff into Lake Erie are far short of the 40 percent target set by the U.S. and Canada. Achieving that goal would need large scale adoption of practices such as buffers, subsurface phosphorus placement, and cover crops across thousands of acres, with voluntary compliance proving inadequate.
