Visiting judge mulls review in Head Start case in Elyria

Visiting Judge Virgil Sinclair Jr. asked prosecutors and defense lawyers for time to review the Head Start child molestation case before a hearing. A conference call noted he would allow motions and another telephonic meeting next month. The case involves Nancy Smith and Joseph Allen, free since 2009 after Judge James Burge reopened and later acquitted them. Burge faces a disciplinary probe and an inquiry into his handling of the case. Authorities discuss clemency for Smith. Allen seeks the same process. Will supports commuting Smith's sentence but not a pardon. Bailey declined comment. Brad Dicken Chronicler.
