A manager at East 42nd Street Subway found a counterfeit $50 bill during a deposit at First Federal Savings of Lorain on Monday afternoon. Earlier, a fake $100 bill was detected at the same bank by a customer. The suspect bill is linked to Richard's Premier Lounge on East 28th Street. Police note prior reports of counterfeit $50s at Cooper Foster Park Road Burger King and similar incidents in Amherst.
Avon Lake police request help locating Patricia Tricia Kowalski a 15 year old who left home March 4 and has brown eyes shoulder length brown hair and is 5 foot 10. She may be in the Greater Cleveland area including Elyria Lorain or Amherst. Call (440) 933 4567 with information.
A proposed $33 million K-4 school at South Lake Street near Amherst Junior High would close Powers, Shupe, and Harris elementaries to fund a 37 year bond and a 5 year operating levy. The project includes a 12 million rec center with Lorain County Metro Parks. state funds and grants would cover half costs. An informational event with Sayers at Ziggy's Pub tonight at 6 p.m. invites residents to learn more.
Principal Heidi Riddle called the event an unfortunate situation and said the pencil holder had no history of problems. The injured student’s condition could not be disclosed due to privacy laws, and the responsible student is not considered a troublemaker.
