Clearview Concert Band earns trip to state finals

The Clearview Concert Band, under director David Eddleman, earned a superior rating at the Ohio Music Education Association district competition in Parma Heights and advances to the Bay Village High School state finals. First chairs include Jessica Kirsch and Kara Warner among others. IVS teacher Seth Houston receives Outstanding New Career Technical Teacher of the Year from the Special Needs Division of OCATE.

Elyria students chosen for Boys State program

Two Elyria High School students Kevin Gibbs and Michael Thoen were selected by the American Legion to attend the Boys State program a nine day seminar for high school seniors. The session runs June 11 to June 19 at Bowling Green State University where students are elected to mock offices to learn government functions.

North Ridgeville Middle School led Montserrat disaster drill

About 20 students from North Ridgeville Middle School ran a two hour NASA backed drill simulating volcanic eruption and hurricane response on Montserrat. Teams handled communications, volcano, hurricane and evacuation as data streamed in, testing decision speed and teamwork.

Oberlin High School art teacher sparks student portraits
