In Mansfield, Med-Central Health System physicians Dr Kanwalpreet Bagga 37 and Dr Fran Spencer 45 died in a murder suicide. The coroner said Bagga shot Spencer in the chest then killed himself at Spencer's home after colleagues worried he missed work.
William Ellison III, 38, died after a March 8 fall through a floor into a basement while firefighters searched a burning Cincinnati area house for a possible victim. Ellison, of Union Township, leaves a wife and two daughters.
Gov. Bob Taft urged Ohio public universities to stay aggressive in lobbying for budget funding at a trustee conference. He cited a $2.6 billion and $2.7 billion two year plan and a looming court order on school funding while noting tight revenues and tough budget choices ahead. Chancellor Chu said higher education must be funded to keep a strong economy.
