Inflation floods nation with dirty money, says economist
Wilmington College economist Martin Giesbrecht warns inflation has produced a flood of worn old currency. He notes a $1 bill wears out in about 12 months while a $20 bill lasts about two years, and printing costs for new bills have risen. Machines now sort far more bills daily but cannot distinguish age as well as humans, letting more old notes reenter circulation. He suggests introducing new bills could boost perceived economic confidence.
