Elyria Salvation Army Pioneer Recalled in Campaign
Elizabeth Rawson, commandant at 531 Loci street, reflects on 48 years of Salvation Army work in Elyria as the city prepares an $18,000 fund drive for a new building. She recalls Captain Alice Aldred and Lieutenant Weimer who launched the local effort and notes Elyria’s welcoming start amid widespread early hostility to the Army. Rawson spent 33 years in active service before retiring at 62, then returned to Elyria and remains invested in the forthcoming campaign.
