Taxpayers Could Save Millions Through County Reorganization
The Commission on County Government says Ohio counties waste money via clumsy organization and duplications. Senate Bill 134 would reduce offices to five departments with a county executive, offering optional plans like council mayor, city manager, or school-type models. Savings cite over 600000 annually from a merged auditor and treasurer, plus 10 to 20 percent on purchasing. Changes require voter approval and do not alter townships or municipalities. Commission members include Charles Taft as chair and leaders from state farm and civic groups.
