Soldier in Afghan killings faces 1.5 million fraud debt
The soldier accused in the Afghan killings owes 1.5 million from a 2003 arbitration ruling finding him guilty of securities fraud. The National Association of Securities Dealers said Robert Bales and a colleague engaged in fraud and other offenses. The case dates to a complaint filed by Gary Liebschner in 2000, with Bales later enlisting after 9/11.

Frozen sperm inheritance in Social Security dispute reaches Supreme Court
Karen Caputo used her late husband Robert Capato’s frozen sperm to conceive twins 18 months after his death. The case tests whether posthumously conceived children qualify as survivors under the Social Security Act and faces questions of inheritance under Florida law and 1930s wording.
