Ohio Farmers divided over biotech high-tech seeds
Ohio farmers remain split on biotech seeds as debates over bioengineered foods blend science and fear. Joe Cornely of the Ohio Farm Bureau notes most farmers see no crisis and dismiss scare tactics while deciding whether to stick with high-tech seed or revert to conventional varieties. Planting timelines place corn by late April and soybeans by mid May with many continuing to use high-tech seeds. Mike Miller of OSU Extension in Medina County calls farmers “in a real quandary” though few will switch. Dwayne Siekman of the Ohio Corn Growers Association sees most continuing current practices.
