In Seattle a three alarm blaze tore through the Ozark Hotel lobby and five floors. Fire Chief Gordon Vickery noted a nearby garbage fire may have sparked the disaster and resident Jim Corrs said flames erupted rapidly after the lobby blast. About 62 rooms existed with around 40 occupied.
