The piece notes European-style salutes and a Lady Grove reference. It also describes fashion notes on collars and stocks from Woman's Home Companion.

Memphis Flood Traps Trains and Brings Rail Shutdowns

Associated Press dispatch from Memphis reports severe flood conditions with tributaries falling yet rail lines into the city washed out. Westbound Cotton Belt and Frisco trains were halted after flooded tracks and a breach near Trice's Landing left passenger cars surrounded by water three miles from Bridge Junction Ark. About 75 passengers per train plus crews rode out the rising water, with more than 100 aboard and no immediate rescue. The river runs at 39.3 feet, the highest level recorded, and a further rise across submerged areas is feared.
