Engineer clarifies contract scope on Memorial Bridge funding

Former Assistant County Prosecutor Roy F. Vandemark corroborates Cleveland engineer Wendell P. Brown that none of the $61,006 in Brown’s fee is for bridge supervision. Brown says $45,000 has been paid and $26,000 more due, while Brown denies any supervision charges. The contract shows the first two percent covered general plans and working drawings, not construction supervision, with details stretching to piers, borings, land approvals, and War Department negotiations.

Speeding up court work halves common pleas civil docket

Common Pleas Judges W B Thompson and A R Webber nearly render themselves obsolete as records show 100 more civil and equity cases disposed of in the first two months of this year’s January term than filed. If this pace continues through three terms the civil docket could clear by July 1 1930. The change stems from a new rule issued January 7 assigning cases to the first available judge, boosting efficiency from prior averages of about 196 and then 177 per month.
