Auto Industry Faces Crisis Across Labor Standstill
Washington March 17 The auto industry faced a critical self government test as manufacturers sought a way to avert a labor crisis. The three man code authority must settle a long standing dispute that led to 75,900 AFL workers being ordered to strike. A mediation board was likely to be formed with findings binding on all parties. The president appeared to be involved behind the scenes and the crisis threatened to spill into steel and other sectors. The core issue remains section 7A of the automobile code governing workers rights to organize.
