Benita Mitchell, 16, ferries Elyria High band mates to Mitchell's, a 15 year old family barbecue spot run by James and Emma Mitchell. The menu features ribs with a secret sauce, fried chicken, ham, pork chops, greens, corn bread, and desserts. Prices stay low to serve everyday customers from Elyria Lorain Oberlin and beyond. The family built the business after layoffs, using secondhand furnishings and a down to earth vibe. The sauce recipe dates to 1932, with claims of fame spreading through Northern Ohio Live and word of mouth from Cleveland to New York and San Francisco.
